UCLA’s Nick Pasquale had 0.26% blood alcohol level at time of death
UCLA’s Nick Pasquale had a blood-alcohol content of 0.26% when he was struck and killed by a car in the early morning hours on Sept. 8, Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said. As a reference point, the legal limit for driving a vehicle in California is 0.08%.
Pasquale, a walk-on receiver, was walking home from a friend’s house in San Clemente at the time of the accident. Hallock said the cause of death was blunt-force trauma. The driver of the car called police and waited for their arrival. He was questioned but not detained.
A routine toxicology test was performed. Hallock said there was no way to determine if Pasquale’s alcohol content was a contributing factor in the accident. He did say that Pasquale tested negative for drugs.
Pasquale came to UCLA last season and was a popular member of the team. He played briefly in the season opener against Nevada and his No. 36 is painted on the Rose Bowl field at the spot where he lined up.
