The Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board launched its first ever dineL.A. Happy Hour Week on Monday. That's a full week of happy hour specials from restaurants and bars around the city, with some introducing prix-fixe happy hour menus, or specials that run all night.
Here's a rundown of some spots offering the best bang for your buck. Just make sure you have a designated driver on speed dial.
Bacari PDR: The Playa del Rey restaurant and bar is offering all of its cold and hot appetizers, along with all grilled pizzas for $6, Monday to Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Additional dineL.A. happy hour week specials include a $6 pan-seared barramundi with grapefruit hollandaise; $6 New Zealand greenshell mussel shooters; and a $6 yam kale cake with merguez sausage. You can also order a half liter of sangria for $5. 6805 Vista Del Mar Lane, Playa del Rey, (310) 439-2100, www.bacaripdr.com/.
Bouchon Bistro Bar: The Beverly Hills restaurant is offering a prix-fixe happy hour menu for $20. If you can snag a seat at the restaurant bar upstairs — not to be confused with Bar Bouchon downstairs — you can treat yourself to steak frites; a croque madame; or poulet roti (roast chicken) and a glass of select sparkling wine, red wine or white wine, or Anderson Valley Brewing Co. White Apron. And oysters are $2 each. The special menu is available at the bar from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. all week. 235 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, (310) 271-9910, www.thomaskeller.com/bouchon-bistro-beverly-hills.
Butchers & Barbers: With a $9 grilled cheese on the menu, happy hour isn't exactly cheap, but it's still a good deal. The sandwich happens to be made with plum pickles, aged white cheddar and country bread. But the real deal on the menu is the short rib "pastrami" sandwich, served with Gruyère, horseradish aioli and a can of Olympia for $10. Glasses of house red and white wine are also $6 each. The dineL.A. Happy Hour Week specials are being offered Tuesday to Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. 6531 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, (323) 461-1461, www.butchersandbarbers.com/
Engine Co. No. 28: The renovated firehouse in downtown L.A. created a new menu of happy hour bites and drinks, just for Happy Hour Week. And they're offering happy hour all week, from 2:30 to 10 p.m. Specials include mac 'n' cheese bites ($5); meatloaf sliders ($7); and four cocktails priced at $5, including the Chief Arnie, made with tea-infused vodka, and lemonade; and the Peter Piper martini, featuring a classic martini with vodka and pickle juice. 644 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, (213) 624-6996, www.engineco.com/.
Gracias Madre: Happy hour is happening from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, at this vegan Mexican restaurant. There's normally a selection of $5 drinks and food on the happy hour menu, but exclusive specials for the week include roasted root vegetable empanadas with pineapple habanero salsa, cumin lentils and cashew crema; and cocktail with tequila blanco, txakolina, grapefruit peel and thyme. 8905 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, (323) 978-2170, www.graciasmadreweho.com/.
