Junior Dion Rizzo pitched five innings, striking out five and walking one, to pick up the victory for the visiting Apaches (1-1). He also had a hit and a run batted in. Shortstop Billy Pinterson added two hits and one RBI and left fielder Michael Rider had two hits.

Designated hitter Tony Asaro, a junior, hit a two-out, two-run home run in the eighth inning for the Warriors (2-0) at El Segundo Recreation Park. Cerritos Valley Christian falls to 1-1.

Victor Facio hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Marcos Aldrete in the bottom of the eighth inning for Whittier (2-0). Jesse Martinez pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks for Whittier.

T.J. Mittelstaedt had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs and Pat O’Neill had three hits and an RBI for Mission Viejo (1-1). Chris Jones struck out two and gave up five hits in five innings to earn the decision over Esperanza (0-2).

Jameson Kuykendale (1-0) pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts for host Northwood (1-1). Westminster is 1-1.

Eddie Avalos scored the winning run on an infield error with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning for Buena Park (2-0). Casey Arbiso pitched seven innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out 10 for the Coyotes. Western is 0-2.

Jeff Minter threw the first three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three, then was relieved by Jimmy Cooper, who allowed one run on two hits and struck out four with no walks in four innings for the visiting Griffins (1-1). Center fielder Adam Denton had two hits, scored a run and drove in two more for Los Alamitos. Irvine falls to 0-2.

Left-handed senior Brandon Parillo (1-0) threw a five-hitter, striking out four, for the host Vikings (2-0), ranked No. 5 by The Times. Aliso Niguel falls to 1-1.

Mark Trumbo pitched three innings with five strikeouts, allowing no hits and no runs, for No. 2 Villa Park (2-0). Trumbo also went two for two with a triple, solo homer and three RBIs and senior Casen Burwell went two for four with a three-run home run for the Spartans. El Toro is 1-1.

Sophomore pitcher Jamil Acosta, who came in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and no outs, preserved the win by striking out two batters and forcing a fly to save the game for visiting Downey (1-1). Kennedy is 0-2.

Royce Huffaker and Kazuki Saito each drove in two runs for University (1-1). Saito gave up four hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven in six innings to earn the victory. Sonora falls to 0-2.

Senior center fielder Steve Fraser had three hits, including two triples, and drove in three runs for Millikan (1-1). Relief pitcher Shane Minor went five innings, giving up two runs and three hits, to earn the win.

Sophomore Gabe Cohen hit the game-winning two-run home run and senior Greg Young pitched four innings, allowing two unearned runs, for host Harvard-Westlake (2-0). L.A. Baptist is 1-1.

Clint Skein scored on a head-first slide in the seventh inning to score the winning run for the host Bulldogs (2-0). Skein, who had a double in the inning, was on second with the bases loaded and one out, when the first baseman couldn’t handle a dribbler, allowing two runs to score. Skein also pitched two innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits but striking out two, to pick up the victory. Westlake falls to 0-2.

Montclair Prep 5, Malibu 4
Michael Trump threw a four-hitter, striking out seven, to earn the victory for the host Mounties (1-1). Daren Kagafoff had two hits, including a sixth-inning single that drove in two runs to give Montclair Prep the lead. Malibu falls to 1-1.

Josiah Reed pitched five innings to pick up the win for Oaks Christian (2-0), which scored the winning run on a bases-laoded walk. Pitcher Jeff Granillo gave up six hits and no walks in seven innings for visiting Vasquez (1-1).

Nick DiNapoli had a two-run homer and Brian Stevens threw an eight-hitter, giving up one earned run, over six innings to earn the victory for Buena (2-0). Ryan Jones had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run for South Torrance (1-1).

Bryan Petersen drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Mike Moustakas with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for Chatsworth (2-0). Peterson got the final out for a save after Jake Norton went 6 2/3 innings to earn the victory. Travis Babin had a two-run homer for Saugus (1-1) to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning.

Brian D’Ambrosi went one for two with one run scored for Mary Star (1-1). Culver City improves to 1-1.

Jason Breckley had two hits, including a two-out, three-run double that was lost in the sun in the bottom of the sixth inning that game Moorpark a 7-4 lead. Junior Max Hacker gave up only a bunt single in six innings of work, striking out two, for the victory for the visiting Vikings (2-0). Daniel Nava had a home run and Miles Simcox, Tim Livingston, Cody Decker, Kyle Johnson and Edgar Aceves each added a double.

David White went three for four with one RBI, four runs scored and four stolen bases, including home plate for the winning run in the top of the seventh, to lead St. Monica (1-1). In the first game, senior Joel Barragan pitched a no-hitter for host Bloomington, which is 2-1 after the doubleheader.

James Scott, on the day, went five for seven with two home runs and a double Brett Blumenthal went six for 10 with six RBIs, two home runs and a double on the day for visiting Cajon (2-0). Scott also picked up the win in the first game, striking out 13. Montclair is 0-2.

Jon Bravo threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk for Chino (3-0) in the first game of a doubleheader sweep. Vince Vadney singled in Steve Oviedo in the bottom of the seventh inning two win the second game.

Chino Hills 6-0, Los Osos 0-5
Brandon Cunniff and Brent King combined on a two-hit shutout for Los Osos (2-1) in the second game of the doubleheader. Michael Anderson had three hits and scored a run for Los Osos in the victory. In the first game, sophomore Chris Parnelee had a shut out with six strike outs for Chino Hills (2-1).

Corona Santiago 12-5, Alta Loma 8-4 (2nd game, 8 innings)
In the first game of the doubleheader, winning pitcher Jacob Medina hit a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the winning run for host Corona Santiago (2-1). Alta Loma is 1-2. Ian Hollick and Dan Contreras each hit a three-run homerun to overcome a 8-0 deficit for host Corona Santiago in the second game.

La Salle 4-5, Cathedral 3-3
Dan Sulzinger went two for two with two RBIs and two stolen bases in the first game of the doubleheader for La Salle (2-0). Matt Merril went three for four with two RBIs in the second game for Cathedral (0-2).

Oxford Academy 17-14, Avalon 5-0
In the first game, returing all-CIF first team player senior Ryan Bedard had two homeruns and two stolen bases and senior Robert Thompson went five for six with four stolen bases to lift visiting Oxford Academy (1-0). In the second game, junior Christian Florido pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in four innings for visiting Oxford Academy (2-0).

Pacific 6-7, Indio 3-2
Carl Phillips had two hits in each game, including a home run in the second game, for visiting Pacific (2-1). Indio is 0-2.

San Bernardino 14-10, Cathedral City 3-5
San Bernardino had 33 hits, including six doubles and a triple, and got two complete-game pitching performances in sweeping the doubleheader. Mario Rivera, who went six for nine at the plate on the day, threw a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the opener. Edward Hoover threw a seven-hitter with nine strikeouts in the second game. Jeff Bowden and Greg Torres each went five for eight on the day, with Torres driving in five runs.

San Gorgonio 16-25, Banning 3-2 (2nd game, 6 innings)
Brandon Gill, on the day, went five for seven with eight RBIs and three doubles for host San Gorgonio (3-0). Banning is 0-2.

Santa Clara 7-8, Bishop Diego 6-4 (1st game, 11 innings)
Erick Jones scored the winning run on a balk in the top of the 11th inning of the first game and the Saints (2-0) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to erase a 4-1 deficit in the second game. Jason Ford had two hits and two RBIs in the first game and Ruben Clark went two-for-two with two RBIs in the second game for host Bishop Diego (0-2).

Mark Salazar, on the day, went five for seven with seven RBIs and a solo home run for Santa Paula. Mike Cortez, who picked up the win in the first game, went four for seven with two doubles and five RBIs on the day for Santa Paula.
