The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a $37.5-million, three-year contract to keep major league home run champion Mark Trumbo, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday night because the agreement is contingent on Trumbo passing a physical.

Trumbo, 31, hit 47 home runs last year. He did not accept the Orioles’ qualifying offer of a $17.2-million, one-year contract, wanting to test the market. Uncertain whether he would return, the Orioles acquired outfielder Seth Smith from Seattle earlier this month.

With Trumbo leading the way, the Orioles earned an AL wild-card berth last season, then lost to Toronto in 11 innings.

Trumbo played in 159 games last season, batting .256 while setting career highs for home runs and RBIs (108). While he’s suspect defensively in right field, he made up for that deficiency with his offense. Trumbo had 157 hits, 51 walks and a .316 on-base percentage.

Obtained before last season from the Mariners, Trumbo has 178 homers and 517 RBIs over a seven-year big career with the Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle and Baltimore.

Right-hander Tyson Ross and the Texas Rangers have completed a $6-million, one-year contract after the pitcher who made only one start last season passed a physical. The deal includes the potential to make another $3 million in incentives. After Ross started on opening day for the San Diego Padres last year, he went on the disabled list for right shoulder inflammation. He eventually had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in October. … The New York Yankees plan to go to salary arbitration with reliever Dellin Betances, which would be the team’s first hearing in nearly a decade. Eligible for arbitration for the first time, Betances submitted a proposed $5-million salary last week and the Yankees filed at $3 million. A hearing before three arbitrators will be scheduled for next month. …

The Miami Marlins obtained 14-game winner Dan Straily from the Cincinnati Reds for three minor leaguers: right-handers Luis Castillo and Austin Brice, both highly regarded prospects in the Marlins’ thin system, and outfielder Isaiah White. Straily had the best year of his career in 2016, when he went 14-8 for the last-place Reds with a 3.76 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 34 games. … Free agent right-hander Neftali Feliz has signed a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, who are looking for a closer in the bullpen. Feliz’s deal is worth $5.35 million, with $1.5 million in performance bonuses based on games and games finished. The eight-year veteran spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, going 4-2 with a 3.52 ERA in 62 games, serving mainly as a setup man. …

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed former San Francisco Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco to a minor league contract. The 33-year-old hit .224 with one home run and 18 RBIs, 10 doubles and four triples in 104 games with the Giants last season. That was down significantly from his 2015 statistics, when he hit .291.with five homers in 115 games. … The Philadelphia Phillies and outfielder Michael Saunders have finalized a $9-million, one-year contract. Saunders will earn $8 million this season, and the Phillies have a 2018 option worth $10.5 million with a $1-million buyout.
