Chargers lose Manti Te’o for rest of season

Share

San Diego linebacker Manti Te’o will miss the rest of the season because of a torn left Achilles’ tendon, the Chargers said Monday. The fourth-year pro from Notre Dame was hurt during Sunday’s 26-22 loss at Indianapolis.

The Chargers (1-2) have lost a key player for the season in each of their three games. Receiver Keenan Allen suffered a torn knee ligament in a season-opening loss at Kansas City. Running back Danny Woodhead suffered the same injury in a home win over Jacksonville.

Te’o was chosen as a team captain after leading the Chargers with 107 tackles last season.

Wilson hobbled

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and Pete Carroll raised the possibility he could miss the Seahawks’ Week 4 game against the New York Jets, although the coach said Wilson “feels great” and his recovery is going “exceedingly well.” Wilson was hurt Sunday during a 37-18 victory over San Francisco and had an MRI test that night.

Davis re-retires

San Francisco guard Anthony Davis retired from the NFL for the second time. Davis sat out last season in part because of concerns over a concussion before deciding to return to the 49ers this summer. He suffered another concussion in practice on Sept. 15.

Vereen out for year

New York Giants running back Shane Vereen is done for the season after suffering a torn triceps Sunday against Washington. Starter Rashad Jennings missed the game with a thumb injury, and if he can’t play this week at Minnesota, rookie Paul Perkins from UCLA could take on a bigger role.
