Emmy Award-winning sound editor from ‘X-Files’ killed in Moorpark crash
An Emmy Award-winning sound editor known for “Lost” and “The X-Files” was killed Saturday in Moorpark after a driver swerved into his bicycle and then struck a motorcyclist, also killing him, officials said.
Maciek Malish, 53, of Simi Valley, was riding a bicycle about 5:20 p.m. on Moorpark Road near Tierra Rejada Road when a silver Saturn traveling south swerved, for unknown reasons, and struck him, said Officer Miguel Duarte of the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Saturn then tried to get back into her lane, but struck Jesse Cushman, who was riding a motorcycle, he said. Cushman, 43, of Fillmore, and Malish died at the scene.
CHP officers are investigating what caused the driver to swerve and are looking into whether she was distracted. She was not arrested and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, Duarte said.
Malish was best known for his sound editing work on “The X-Files.” He won Emmys for outstanding sound editing in 1996 and 1997.
He was nominated for the same award for his work on the TV series “Lost,” “Millennium” and “The Tick.”
