A man was fatally shot at the Glendale-based Forest Lawn cemetery about noon Tuesday, authorities said.

Jason Grey, 29, was visiting the cemetery when the shooting occurred, Los Angeles Police Department Det. Pjai Morris said. It was unclear whether Grey was visiting a family member’s grave. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It has all the signs and makings of a gang-related homicide,” said Morris, noting that Grey was shot multiple times in the upper and lower body.

The suspect fled the scene, Morris said.

The cemetery, at 1712 S. Glendale Ave., straddles Glendale and Los Angeles. The shooting took place on the Los Angeles side of the 300-acre site, and the LAPD’s Northeast Division is investigating.

It was the first reported homicide of the new year in Los Angeles, Morris noted.

The cemetery, where many celebrities are buried, including Walt Disney, is a popular tourist destination.

Grey’s body was found a few hundred yards from one of the cemetery’s most popular spots, the hilltop Freedom Mausoleum.

Forest Lawn Memorial-Park has another location near Griffith Park.

Morris said there were 18 homicides last year in the LAPD’s Northeast Division, which covers Atwater, Cypress Park, Eagle Rock and Mount Washington and other nearby communities. The number was down from 26 in 2006.
