Long Beach State improves to 9-0 in Big West play

at Long Beach State 75, Cal State Fullerton 61: The 49ers overcame an off night by Casper Ware to improve to 9-0 in Big West play. James Ennis scored 19 points and Larry Anderson had 16 for Long Beach (16-6 overall). The Titans (13-7, 5-3) got 20 points from Omondi Amoke and 16 from Isiah Umipig.

at UC Irvine 65, UC Riverside 57: Derick Flowers scored 17 points and the Anteaters (8-13, 4-4 Big West) closed the game on an 18-6 run. Flowers scored 13 of his points in the second half, when Irvine made 16 of 20 free throws. Phil Martin led the Highlanders (10-11, 4-4) with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Cal State Northridge 76, at Cal State Bakersfield 68: Stephan Hicks scored 26 points for the Matadors (6-12 6-13) in the nonconference victory over the Roadrunners (11-11), who were led by Donald Johnson’s 18 points and 10 rebounds.

UC Santa Barbara 56, at Pacific 53: Jaime Serna scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and the Gauchos (11-7, 6-2 Big West) hung on. Travis Fulton’s three-pointer with 54 seconds remaining tied the game 51-51 and capped a 9-3 run that helped bring the Tigers (7-13, 3-5) back from a 38-23 deficit. Kyle Boswell answered with a three-pointer for UCSB.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 67, at UC Davis 65: The Mustangs (13-9, 4-5 Big West) rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to hand the Aggies (1-19, 0-8) their 16th consecutive loss. Will Taylor scored 18 points for Cal Poly, making eight of 11 shots.

at Loyola Marymount 62, Portland 59: Junior Jarred DuBois made a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to lift the Lions (13-9, 6-3, West Coast Conference). DuBois came off the bench for a team-high 18 points, connecting on three of the Lions’ four three-pointers against the Pilots (5-17, 2-7).

at Pepperdine 74, Santa Clara 62: Jordan Baker led four players in double figures with 15 points for the Waves (8-13, 2-8 WCC), who ended an eight-game losing streak. Corbin Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds against the Broncos (8-13, 0-8), who have lost nine in a row.

WOMEN

at Utah 63, USC 55: Things went wrong for the Trojans after they took a 17-0 lead. The Utes closed the deficit to 23-21 by halftime and shot 54% in the second half to pull away. Utah (10-10, 3-6 Pac-12) was led by Michelle Plouffe with 21 points. USC (10-9, 5-4) got 17 points from Ariya Crook.
