Baseball: Agoura advances to semifinals of National Classic

Agoura is earning respect for the Marmonte League by advancing to the semifinals of the National Classic after a 3-0 victory over Santa Margarita on Tuesday.

Matt Lautz threw 6 2/3 innings shutout ball, and Bryce Fehmel came in to record the final out. Ryan Fineman, Joey Czarske and Lautz each had two hits.

Cypress advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Ayala. Garrett Brockel scattered 11 hits in a complete game. Tim Nelson allowed only two hits in taking the loss. Orange Lutheran lost to Monte Vista, 3-1.

Wednesday's semifinal schedule: Cypress vs. IMG Academy at 1 p.m. at El Dorado; Agoura vs. Monte Vista at 7 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton.

Esperanza defeated Loyola, 9-6. Blake Schriever  threw a complete game. Matt McGeagh, Henry Stellwagen and Brandon Posivak each had two RBI for Loyola. North defeated El Dorado, 7-6. Brian Martin had three hits.

In other games, El Modena defeated Redondo, 5-2. Zac McKay struck out four in six innings. Alec Ceniceros got the save and also contributed two hits.

Villa Park defeated Beckman, 3-1. Brandon Vogel had two hits.

In the St. Paul tournament, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame advanced to the final with a 6-4 win over St. Pual. Colin Brophy hit a home run. Ryan Morris got the win. La Mirada defeated Crean, 4-1. Ethan Lopez had two hits and Shawn Dumser threw a two-hitter.

In the Citrus Belt League, Redlands East Valley defeated Miller, 8-0. Jake Diaz had a double and triple. Jake Gozzo threw five shutout innings.

In the Pacific League, Thomas Wilson of Burroughs took on UCLA-bound Brian Gadsby of Crescenta Valley and came away with a 1-0 victory. Wilson allowed four hits. Gadsby allowed three hits. The winning RBI was delivered by Max DeAmicis with a double in the seventh.

In the Eastern League, L.A. Roosevelt defeated South East, 2-1. Kenny Gallegos threw five innings and had the game-winning RBI. Robert Contreras picked up the save and contributed two hits.

In the Big VIII League, Brice Turang and Jacob Shanks each had two hits and two RBI to lead Corona Santiago to a 10-6 win over Norco.

Tesoro defeated El Toro, 3-2. Spencer Krejci had two hits and two RBI for Tesoro. Cory Dawson threw a complete game.

In the Sunbelt League,  Temescal Canyon defeated Elsinore, 15-4. Eli Thomas drove in four runs with a home run and double.

In the Pacific View League, Oxnard improved to 16-2 and 3-0 with a 5-0 win over Channel Islands. Antonio Gaxiola threw the shutout.

St. Francis lost to St. Paul, 8-3, and defeated Carson, 6-4. Gardena Serra defeated Banning, 6-4.

Foothill defeated Pioneer Valley, 6-5, in the Righetti tournament.

Narbonne defeated Glenn, 13-1. Daniel Rocha went three for four with four RBI.
