Baseball: JSerra is set to play Mater Dei in Boras Classic championship game

JSerra and Mater Dei, set to meet next week to start Trinity League play, will get an early meeting after advancing to Friday night’s 6 p.m. final at JSerra for the Boras Classic Southern California Division championship.

Collin Quinn threw a two-hitter and struck out eight in JSerra’s 5-0 semifinal win over Alemany. Mater Dei got two hits and two RBI from Grant Burton and Austin Reyes in an 8-4 semifinal win over Huntington Beach.

Palm Desert defeated Birmingham, 7-0. Niko Switalla had three hits in Chatsworth’s 5-4 win over Granite Hills. Great Oak defeated San Clemente, 2-1. Brandon Stewart had three hits and Zack Noll made his season debut, throwing 2 1/3 innings to earn the save.

Boras Classic schedule for Friday: At JSerra, Chaminade vs. Damien, 9 a.m.; Great Oak vs. Aliso Niguel, noon; Alemany vs. Huntington Beach, 3 p.m.; Mater Dei vs. JSerra, 6 p.m. At Mater Dei: Palm Desert vs. Granite Hills, 9 a.m.; Long Beach Wilson vs. San Clemente, noon; Corona vs. Birmingham, 3 p.m.; Vista Murrieta vs. Chatsworth, 6 p.m.

In the South Coast League, Dana Hills defeated El Toro, 2-1. Hans Crouse threw a complete game, striking out the final two batters.

In the Big VIII League, Roosevelt defeated Corona Santiago, 6-1. Chris Moore had two hits and two RBI.

In the Righetti tournament, Calabasas defeated Merced, 9-1. Sammy Kaufman got the win and Greg Cromar and Grant Nechak each had two hits. Foothill defeated South Torrance, 9-0. Zac Vujnov threw the shutout. Austin Inkley had three hits. Jesse Hanckel threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts in Village Christian’s 3-0 win over Buena.

San Dimas improved to 17-0 with a 2-1 win over St. Laurence. Jonathan Longtin struck out nine in a complete game.

Brentwood defeated Viewpoint, 9-1. Jeremy Lebowitz threw five shutout innings and had two hits.

Loyola defeated West Ranch, 6-2. Matt McGeagh and Joe Fortin had two hits apiece.
