There's no lack of talent from West Valley League pitchers this season, and junior left-hander Chris Murphy of Granada Hills gave a sneak peek of how effective pitchers are going to be in the league this season.
On Wednesday in a nonleague opener against Verdugo Hills, Murphy had a no-hitter for 5 2/3 innings in the Highlanders' 4-1 victory. He struck out 10 in six shutout innings. He's committed to California.
Holden Mehr provided the big hits, getting a two-run home run and RBI single. Tony LaPorte added a solo home run.
That means two games in and West Valley teams are 2-0.
