Baseball: Marco Briones strikes out 13 in Alhambra victory

Marco Briones improved to 27-1 in his Alhambra career on the mound, striking out 13 in a 5-1 victory over Bell Gardens in an Almont League game on Tuesday. He threw a six-hitter.

Aaron Pinto struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings to help St. Paul defeat Bishop Amat, 9-1. Pinto also was three for three.

In the Trinity League, Quentin Longrie struck out nine and threw a five-hitter to help JSerra defeat Servite, 3-1, and stay atop the league standings. Mater Dei defeated St. John Bosco, 4-1. Charlie Vorsheck threw a complete game. Jonathan Schiffer and Brett Olson each had two RBIs.

Orange Lutheran (9-10, 7-4) picked up its fourth consecutive Trinity League win with a 3-2 victory over Santra Margarita. Joey Sanchez had an RBI double in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie. Leo Hernandez threw four shutout innings.

In the Century League, Trent Etchandy threw a three-hitter to lift Foothill past Esperanza, 5-1.

In the Southwestern League, Chaparral pulled out a 6-5, 10-inning win over Great Oak. Gavin Johns had four hits on the day. Eli Lingos had two hits and three RBIs for Great Oak. Vista Murrieta defeated Murrieta Valley, 1-0. J.T. McLellan threw a one-hitter, striking out one and walking two.

In the Valley Mission League, Granada Hills Kennedy took over first place with a 6-3 win over Sylmar. Felix Rubi struck out seven and allowed five hits. Nick Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs, including his third home run of the season. The two teams play again on Thursday at Kennedy.

In the Marine League, Narbonne defeated Gardena, 7-0. Daniel Rocha struck out 13 and went two for three. Scott Savage added two doubles.

In the Western League, Palisades pulled into a tie with Hamilton after an 8-4 win over the Yankees. Hoyt Maybank struck out nine in a complete game.

In the Olympic League, Village Christian took over first place with a 4-1 win over Maranatha. Jesse Hanckel threw a four-hitter. Dawson Rosenberg had two hits. Benji Foyle pitched Heritage Christian past Valley Christian, 13-3. Colin Adams had three hits.

In the San Gabriel League, Gahr defeated Downey, 4-1.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Burroughs, 7-0. Brian Gadsby threw six shutout innings, striking out five and walking none.

Sierra Canyon improved to 20-4 with an 11-1 Delphic League win over Pasadena Marshall. Brock Bell had two hits and three RBIs. Zach Tavelman added three hits.

In the Baseline League, Glendora stayed in first place after an 8-1 win over Etiwanda. Kale Morton improved to 8-0. He threw five innings. D.J. Peters had two hits. Alta Loma defeated Upland, 3-0.

In the Pacific Coast League, Beckman defeated Corona del Mar, 6-1. Adam Lamar struck out five and walked none in a complete game.
