Baseball: Mater Dei’s Josh Stephen goes in 11th round to highlight final day of draft

Outfielder Josh Stephen of Santa Ana Mater Dei led a large contingent of Southern California products taken on the third and final day of baseball’s amateur draft.

The USC signee was selected in the 11th round by the Phillies. USC had the second most college players selected overall at 12.

Among local players taken, Luke Persico (Great Oak, UCLA) went in the 12th round to the Athletics.

Louie Crow (Buena Park) went in the 16th round to the Brewers. Lyle Lin (JSerra) went in the 16th round to the Mariners.

Tim Richards (LB Wilson, CS Fullerton) went to the Twins in the 18th round. Marc Huberman (Hamilton, USC) went to the Cubs in the 18th round. Cody Ramer (Simi Valley, Arizona) was taken by the Angels in the 19th round.

Eric Filia (Edison, UCLA) went to the Mariners in the 20th round. Ben Baird (Agoura) went to the Indians in the 20th round. Tim Robinson (Ocean View, USC) went to the Yankees in the 21st round. Dom Abbadessa (Huntington Beach) was chosen by the Blue Jays in the 23rd round.

Brady Conlan (Chatsworth, Cal State Dominguez Hills) went to the White Sox in the 24th round. Chasen Ford (El Toro, Yale) went to the Padres in the 27th round. Scott Ogrin (Valencia) went to the Twins in the 27th round.

Spencer Steer (Long Beach Millikan) went to the Indians in the 29th round. Former Palisades infielder Elliott Barzilli went to the Astros in the 29th round. Cameron Jabara (Newport Harbor) was chosen by the Braves in the 31st round. Ryan Mauch (South Hills) was chosen by the Orioles in the 32nd round. Darius Vines (St. Bonaventure) was chosen by the Astros in the 32nd round. Blake Sabol (Aliso Niguel) went to the Indians in the 33rd round.

David Clawson (Dana Hills) went to the Yankees in the 34th round. Trevor Edior (Carson) went to the Rockies in the 36th round. Leo Kaplan (Harvard-Westlake) went to the White Sox in the 37th round. Corey Dempster (Loyola, USC) went in the 37th round to the Yankees.

Davis Moore (Los Osos) went to the Cubs in the 37th round. Jaylon McLaughlin (Santa Monica) went to the Mets in the 38th round. Joey Fregosi (Murrieta Valley) went to the Royals in the 38th round.

Shane Martinez (North) went to the Athletics in the 39th round. Chris Burica (Orange Lutheran) went to the Padres in the 40th round.
