Boys’ basketball: Chibueze Jacobs pours in 33 points in Sherman Oaks Notre Dame win

It was another night of drama in the Mission League, where Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, inspired by a vocal home crowd and a terrific performance from Chibueze Jacobs, upset Harvard-Westlake, 65-63, on Friday night.

Jacobs finished with 33 points, including 18 in the first quarter. He made a basket with two seconds left for the game-winning score. Freshman Cassius Stanley had 23 points for the Wolverines.

Alemany improved to 11-5 and 2-0 in league with a 70-59 road win over Chaminade. DJ McDonald scored 25 points, Brandon Davis 17 and Earnie Serars 17. Loyola is also 2-0 after a 68-58 win over St. Francis. John Stephens and Brett Gangi had 15 points apiece for St. Francis.

In the Trinity League, Orange Lutheran knocked off St. John Bosco, 70-66. Zac Jervis led the Lancers with 18 points. Chris Williams had 17, Joseph Riley 14 and KaVaughn Scott 12. JJ Watson scored 22 points for the Braves. Santa Margarita defeated JSerra, 88-71. Adrease Jackson scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Freshman Jake Kyman added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Mater Dei (15-2, 2-0) defeated Servite, 76-40. Michael Wang had 20 points and MJ Cage added 16 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.

In a Sunset League opener, Los Alamitos defeated Edison, 61-51. Eyassu Worku of Los Alamitos finished with 31 points to become the school’s career scoring leader.

In the Gold Coast, Brentwood defeated Crossroads, 75-61 Nick Medavoy finished with 21 points and nine rebounds. Braelee Albert added 17 points.

In a Coastal Canyon League opener, Camarillo (15-4) held off Simi Valley, 57-52. Justin Nguyen scored 15 points. Oak Park defeated Royal, 61-35. Riley Battin finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

In the Marmonte, Agoura defeated Westlake, 63-39. Hudson Miller led Agoura with 17 points. Adam Hess had 14 for Westlake. Ryan Murphy scored 21 points in Calabasas’ 62-54 win over Thousand Oaks.

Rancho Mirage is 15-0 after an 86-31 win over Desert Mirage. Daryn Evans had 23 points and Tyrell Robinson 20. Charles Neal contributed 11 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Birmingham defeated Bell-Jeff, 80-55. Deschon Winson scored 25 points and had eight steals. Birmingham opens West Valley League play on Wednesday against Cleveland.

Anthony Rios scored 29 points in Whittier’s 71-67 win over San Marino.

Flintridge Prep (10-2, 2-0) defeated Rio Hondo, 76-53. Kendall Kikkawa led a balanced attack with 16 points. Dante Fregoso added 15.

Villa Park defeated Mira Costa, 77-72, behind Evan Battey and Myles Franklin.

Crean Lutheran (11-3) defeated Foothill, 61-57.
