Boys’ basketball: La Mirada turns to Vittorio Reynoso-Avila in playoff victory

Playing in only his second game all season after returning from an injury, Princeton-bound Vittorio Reynoso-Avila scored 23 points to help La Mirada defeat Norco, 66-56, on Wednesday night in a first-round game Southern Section 2A opener.

Temple City defeated Simi Valley, 65-62. Kaden Young scored 27 points for Simi Valley.

In 1AA, Valencia pulled off a first-round upset with a 69-61 victory over Village Christian. Chibuzo Ikonte scored 36 points. Etiwanda rallied for a 62-55 win over Anaheim Canyon. St. John Bosco defeated Oxnard Pacifica, 60-32. JJ Watson scored 13 points. Jules Bernard scored 31 points in Windward’s 70-43 win over Warren.

In 2AA, Loyola defeated Loara, 73-29. Henry Welsh scored 12 points. Austen Awosika scored 28 points and John Edgar had 26 in Ayala’s 92-62 win over Redlands.

In 2A, Lawndale defeated Torrance, 74-72, in overtime.

In 1A, Summit defeated Villa Park, 67-60. Deshay Gipson had 30 points in Highland’s 67-40 win over Westlake. Santa Monica received 30 points from Jonah Mathrews in a 74-59 win over LB Cabrillo.

In 3AA, Calabasas defeated Moorpark, 67-54. Ryan Murphy finished with 19 points. Oak Park defeated Righetti, 65-35. Riley Battin scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds. Freshman Jarod Lucas had 38 points in Los Altos’ 97-80 win over Culver City. Lucas Siewert had 33 points in Cathedral’s 87-72 win over Savanna.

In 3A, Beverly Hills defeated Antelope Valley, 66-29. Josh Hauser scored 18 points in Chaminade’s 66-57 win over San Bernardino. Cameron Griffin made the shot at the buzzer to give Servie a 68-66 win over Hacienda Heights Wilson. He finished with 24 points. Rancho Mirage is 28-0 after a 77-32 win over Jurupa Valley. Charles Neal had 33 points. Diamond Ranch defeated South Hills, 67-54. Roman Silva contributed 27 points and 15 rebounds.

In 4AA, Jonathan Stretesky had 19 points and Chance Goring 14 in Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s 72-43 win over Rim of the World. Banning defeated St. Francis, 84-74. Gardena Serra defeated Desert Hot Springs, 92-44. Terrence Mitchell scored 18 points.

La Canada defeated Northview, 65-24. Koko Kurdoghlian had 15 points. Harvard-Westlake defeated San Bernardino Pacific, 86-40. Ali Iken had 20 points, including six threes, and Cassius Stanley 18. JSerra defeated Costa Mesa, 77-62.

In 4A, Viewpoint defeated Milken, 86-58. Sayo Denloye had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Aram Arslanian added 25 points and 10 rebounds. La Salle defeated Muir, 69-66, behind Christian Little, who scored 29 points. St. Bonaventure defeated Mary Star of the Sea, 55-37. Darius Vines had 24 points and Thomas Frank added 15 points and 19 rebounds.

Campbell Hall defeated Carpinteria, 78-47. Mike Meadows led the Vikings with 19 points.

In 5AA, Flintridge Prep defeated Desert Christian, 76-29. Dante Fregoso had 20 points.
