Track: Marcel Espinoza of Santa Monica is showing off speed

Junior Marcel Espinoza of Santa Monica has plans to be the fastest teeenager in Southern California.

He won the Maurice Greene Invitational on Saturday, taking the 100 meters in 10.61 seconds. He defeated Notre Dame’s Trevor Reid (10.71) and CJ Sanders (10.90).

Espinoza finished seventh at the state 100 championships with a time of 10.57. He has run 10.55.

Most of the state’s top runners are gearing up to run their first fast times at the Arcadia Invitational on April 11 at Arcadia High.

That’s a showdown meet where Espinoza will probably get to face Alemany’s Dominic Davis and Vista Murrieta’s Antonio Mitchell, who has the fastest legal time this season at 10.57.
