Spring training: Angels 8, Giants 7; Cubs 4, Angels 2
AT THE PLATE: Kole Calhoun hit a walk-off home run, the second of his two hits against the Giants. He also stole a base. Erick Aybar (two hits) and Howie Kendrick (two runs batted in) make for a hot-hitting middle infield, with Aybar at .333 and Kendrick at .387.
ON THE MOUND: Hector Santiago (against the Giants) and Joe Blanton (against the Cubs) each pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs and four hits. Joe Smith, the Angels’ $15.75-million relief solution, blew a 6-3 lead against the Giants by giving up four runs and four hits. However, all the runs were unearned because of an error by shortstop Grant Green, who is trying to convince the Angels he can play shortstop so he can make the team as a utility infielder.
EXTRA BASES: The Angels sent catcher John Hester, infielders Tommy Field, Luis Jimenez and Efren Navarro and pitchers Buddy Boshers, Clay Rapada and Josh Wall to minor league camp. Wall, who pitched briefly for the Dodgers last season, carried a Dodgers equipment bag as he left the clubhouse.
UP NEXT: Chicago White Sox on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Camelback Ranch. On the air: Radio: 830.
