Angels 8, Chicago White Sox 6

AT THE PLATE: After scoring a combined 24 runs in split-squad wins Wednesday, the bats remained hot, the Angels bunching five hits in a six-run second inning that included Erick Aybar’s two-run double to left field and Kole Calhoun’s two-run triple to right-center. Howie Kendrick had two singles and is batting .435 (10 for 23).

ON THE MOUND: Garrett Richards gave up two runs and seven hits in 42/3 innings, striking out two and walking none. He minimized damage by pitching out of a two-on, two-out jam in the second and a two-on, one-out jam in the fourth. “It was a battle today,” said Richards, who has not walked a batter in 112/3 innings. “I did a good job of damage control.”

EXTRA BASES: Josh Hamilton, out for two weeks because of a strained left calf, ran around the infield cutout and took live batting practice for the first time since his injury. Manager Mike Scioscia said he is targeting “early next week” for Hamilton to play in games. … Reliever Michael Kohn gave up three runs on two hits, including a homer, in the eighth.
