Dave Dombrowski is out as president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers after nearly 14 seasons in which he helped turn the franchise into an American League powerhouse. Assistant GM Al Avila replaces Dombrowski, who was in the last season of his contract.

Detroit has won four straight AL Central titles, a streak likely to end this year. Dombrowski’s last major act was to trade away star pitcher David Price, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and closer Joakim Soria before the July 31 deadline.

Sanchez suspended

Toronto pitcher Aaron Sanchez was suspended for three games and Manager John Gibbons for one for their roles in Sunday’s brawl-marred game against Kansas City. Major League Baseball also fined Sanchez an undisclosed sum for intentionally throwing at Alcides Escobar.

New York also said ailing right-hander Michael Pineda isn’t expected back until September at the earliest. . . . San Diego reinstated right-hander Ian Kennedy from paternity leave and scheduled him to start Wednesday against Milwaukee.
