Clippers acquire veteran guard Willie Green
The Clippers have acquired veteran free-agent guard Willie Green from the Atlanta Hawks in a sign-and-trade deal in exchange for the draft rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis.
Green, a nine-year veteran, will get a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million.
Green, 31, who averaged 9.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists over his career, played the 2010-11 season with Chris Paul with the New Orleans Hornets.
Green is considered a combo guard who can play both point and shooting guard; he averaged 7.6 points in 17.4 minutes a game last season in Atlanta.
He could play a significant role for the Clippers if guard Chauncey Billups is not able to start the season while he recovers from surgery on his left Achilles’ tendon.
