New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was scratched from his final spring training appearance and could miss his opening day start at Kansas City on Sunday because of an unspecified related medical issue.

“It’s a non-baseball medical issue we have to address,” Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson said. “It came up this morning, as far as I know, and there will be some follow-up tests and consultations that will take place over the next couple of days.”

Harvey did not travel with the rest of the team to Jupiter, Fla., for Monday’s spring training game against the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Mets said he had an appointment with a doctor who was not an orthopedist. “I think it’s a little too early to attach any level of concern,” Alderson said.

The Atlanta Braves released high-priced outfielder Nick Swisher, ditching a former All-Star whose numbers plummeted the last two seasons. The team won’t take much of a financial hit, even though Swisher is guaranteed $15 million this season.

The Braves are set to receive a total of $14,631,148 from the Cleveland Indians by June 30 as part of last season’s trade that brought Swisher and outfielder Michael Bourn to Atlanta for third baseman Chris Johnson.

Swisher hit just .195 with four homers and 17 RBIs in 46 games after coming to the Braves.
