Brad Keselowski gets Nationwide victory

Brad Keselowski passed Joey Logano for the lead with 16 laps to go, then held off Sam Hornish Jr. to win the Nationwide Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on Saturday in a dominant performance for Penske Racing.

Keselowski, who finished second to Carl Edwards despite leading more than half of the race a year ago, won for the fourth straight time over five months in NASCAR’s second-tier series. It was his 24th Nationwide win, tying him with Tommy Houston for eighth place on the career list, and first victory at the Glen. Keselowski has finished second twice to Marcos Ambrose in the last two Cup races here.

Brian Vickers was third, followed by Regan Smith and Elliott Sadler. Logano finished 21st after running out of gas on the final lap, his fuel strategy coming up short.

Hornish closed to within three points of the series lead behind Austin Dillon, who struggled with a sputtering car and finished 11th.

Nadal, Raonic reach final in Montreal

Milos Raonic beat fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4), to reach the Rogers Cup final at Montreal.

In the final, Canada’s top-ranked player will face fourth-seeded Spanish star Rafael Nadal, a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2) winner over top-seeded. Novak Djokovic of Serbia. Djokovic won the tournament the last two years and had won 13 straight matches in the event.

Top-seeded Serena Williams advanced to the women’s Rogers Cup final at Toronto, beating third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, 7-6 (3), 6-4.

The 2001 and 2011 Rogers Cup champion will face Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, a 6-1, 7-6 (5) winner over fourth-seeded Li Na of China in the afternoon semifinal.

Eli Manning connected with Victor Cruz for a 57-yard touchdown pass, and the New York Giants beat the host Pittsburgh Steelers, 18-13, in the exhibition opener for both teams.

Cruz slipped by William Gay and Troy Polamalu, then outran Ryan Clark to score on his first reception since signing a $43-million contract in the off-season. Manning finished two for five for 73 yards. The Giants scored on both drives the offensive starters were in the game.

San Diego Chargers rookie linebacker Manti Te’o will sit out this week because of a sprained right foot and miss the team’s exhibition game at Chicago on Thursday.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Andrew Hawkins will wear a cast for 10 days to try to heal his sprained left ankle, making it doubtful he’ll be ready for the season opener.

A former Vanderbilt football player has been released on bond, while two others remain in jail charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery involving an unconscious student at a campus dormitory in June.

Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio was booked into the Davidson County jail in Nashville early Saturday with bail set at $350,000 for nine charges, including tampering with evidence and unlawful photography.

Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie, 19, of Woodville, Miss., was booked and released Saturday on $50,000 bond.

Cory Batey, 19 of Nashville, was arrested Friday and bond was set at $350,000. Brandon Banks, 19 of Brandywine, Md., had yet to be taken into custody Saturday. Authorities announced the indictments Friday. Vanderbilt dismissed the players from the team June 29.

Emma Talley and Yueer Cindy Feng won semifinal matches in the U.S. Women’s Amateur to advance to the 36-hole final at Charleston, S.C.

Talley, the 19-year-old Princeton, Ky., player coming off her freshman season at Alabama, beat 18-year-old Alison Lee of Valencia, 1 up at the Country Club of Charleston. Lee will be a freshman at UCLA.
