Leonard Williams won’t be playing in the Coliseum this season.

But the New York Jets defensive lineman, an All-American at USC, said Wednesday that Sunday’s game against the Rams at MetLife Stadium has a connection.

“I would love to play in the Coliseum again as a pro,” Williams said during a teleconference, “but it’s still fun to be able to play a team that’s from the Coliseum.”

Williams, the sixth pick in the 2015 draft, is enjoying a productive season. After recording three sacks in 16 games as a rookie, he has six for a team that ranks 14th in the NFL in total defense and fourth against the run.

“The first year he was pretty good,” Coach Todd Bowles said, “but this year he kind of understands blocking schemes better. He’s playing a lot faster without thinking.”

Said Rams Coach Jeff Fisher: “He lines up all over the place and he beats one-on-ones. He does a great job with the games, he’s good run defender. We knew, coming out, he was going to be that kind of player.”

Williams was a three-year starter and two-time All-American at USC. As a sophomore, he had 13 1/2 tackles for losses, including six sacks. As a junior, he had 9 1/2 tackles for losses, including seven sacks.

The Jets were thrilled the Florida native was available when their spot came up in the 2015 draft.

“We weren’t expecting to see him go that far but when he came up at six we were more than happy to take him,” Bowles said.

Williams is part of a line that includes veterans such as Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson. Bowles said Williams has benefited.

“Those guys taught him a lot, especially as far as blocking schemes and how to take on blocks and what he should look for and everything,” Bowles said. “He’s a film junkie as well, but he learned a lot from the other guys.”

Case Keenum will start at quarterback for the Rams with Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in the draft, the backup.

Williams recalled Goff from USC’s matchups against California.

“He was always a composed and pretty poised guy,” Williams said. “Even when things were going wrong for them or things weren’t going quite their way, you could tell that he wasn’t letting the pressure get to him.

“He was composing the team and just continued to fight. He’s a pretty tough dude.”

The Rams are 3-5 and in the midst of a four-game losing streak.

The Jets have won two of their last three games after losing four in a row.

Williams anticipates the Rams will be motivated Sunday.

“We had to come back and fight from it,” he said of the losing streak. “I’m going to be expecting the same thing from them.”
