Update: The Galaxy faces a crucial road test against the Timbers. L.A. currently leads the Timbers by four points for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with two teams in between. The Galaxy gets healthier each week, with defender Andrew Boyens again training with the club seven weeks after sports hernia surgery. The Galaxy defense was bolstered by the return of Omar Gonzalez when he was activated July 3. L.A. faces a club in turmoil. Portland fired coach John Spencer this week and replaced him with General Manager Gavin Wilkinson, who will serve in dual roles for the rest of the season. The Galaxy looks to follow up Sunday’s 2-0 win at Chicago with a second consecutive road victory, but Portland has been a tough venue for L.A. in the past. The Timbers ended the Galaxy’s 14-game unbeaten streak with a 3-0 win last August.
