Yankees Manager Joe Girardi and pitcher CC Sabathia attend Rams training camp practice
Rams tailback Todd Gurley almost didn’t believe his eyes.
“I did see CC,” Gurley said in a tone of disbelief after practice Thursday. “I knew I wasn’t tripping. I swear I was like ‘Man, that is CC’ and everybody looked at me like I was crazy.”
Manager Joe Girardi, pitcher CC Sabathia and a few other members of the New York Yankees stopped by Rams training camp at UC Irvine during a practice session Thursday .
The Yankees are set to play the Los Angeles Angels in a three-game series starting Friday in Anaheim.
Gurley, a Baltimore Orioles fan, did not talk to Sabathia after teammates doubted it was him.
“Everybody looked at me like I was crazy, so I guessed that wasn’t him,” Gurley said.
Girardi and Rams Coach Jeff Fisher spoke for about 10 minutes during warmups as microphones from the HBO series “Hard Knocks” picked up their conversation.
Fisher didn’t share much about their conversation after practice, but said it was nice to meet Sabathia after watching him “a lot.”
Fisher said several high-profile people attended practices or games in St. Louis, but that he has noticed more of a celebrity presence in Los Angeles.
Lakers Coach Luke Walton, San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge and rappers Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q also have attended Rams training camp practices.
