Pitcher Zack Greinke traded to Angels
The Angels have won the Zack Greinke derby.
Angels rookie Jean Segura was just pulled off the field, where he was stretching before tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Angel Stadium.
Segura is headed to the Milwaukee Brewers, along with double-A pitchers Johnny Hellweg and Areal Pena two minor-league pitchers, for the pitcher who was considered the crown jewel of the trade market.
Greinke, the American League Cy Young Award winner in 2009, had a 9-3 record and a 3.44 earned-run average for the Brewers.
He was scheduled to pitch for the Brewers on Sunday against the Washington Nationals, but Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin said Thursday he would likely be traded before that.
Among the teams the Angels beat out in securing Greinke’s services is their rival, the AL West-leading Texas Rangers.
