Michael Sam cut: Eric Wood blames ESPN
Michael Sam, trying to make the St. Louis Rams and possibly become the first openly gay player to play in an NFL regular-season game, was cut by the team on Saturday despite having a solid preseason.
The Rams did not add him to their practice squad, and no other team has signed him yet. Why? Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Eric Wood has a theory.
Responding to a tweet wondering why Sam has not been signed by anyone despite having 11 tackles and 2½ sacks during the preseason and playing much better than expected, Wood tweeted: “Blame that on ESPN. No one wants the distraction.”
Are ESPN and the media circus that surrounded Sam throughout the preseason to blame for him not getting picked up by another team? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment.
