NBA suspends Clippers forward Matt Barnes for one game
Clippers forward Matt Barnes will miss the team’s game Friday night against Toronto after the NBA suspended him for one game, without pay, for striking Minnesota’s Greg Stiemsma in the neck during a game Wednesday.
Barnes was ejected with a flagrant foul 2 after he shoved Stiemsma in the neck in the second quarter of the game in Minneapolis.
Afterward, Barnes said he got upset because the Timberwolves center had elbowed him in the ribs and clipped him on previous plays. “I kind of lost my control, which I apologized to the team for,” Barnes said Wednesday night.
Toronto is the second stop for the Clippers in their two-week, eight-game road trip.
Barnes, 32, has been one of the Clippers’ best players off the bench this season. The 10-year NBA veteran is averaging a career-high 10.8 points a game.
