Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf expected back for Game 2
Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf, who was struck in the face by a puck and required “numerous” stitches to close the wound, has been cleared to play Game 2 of the team’s Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Dallas Stars on Friday at Honda Center, the team announced Thursday.
Getzlaf, after scoring a first-period goal in Wednesday’s 4-3 Game 1 victory by the top-seeded Ducks, was helping on defense late in the third period after the Stars pulled goalie Kari Lehtonen for an extra attacker.
A shot by Dallas’ points leader Tyler Seguin with 16.3 seconds remaining blasted Getzlaf on the left side of the face, knocking him to the ice briefly before a trainer rushed to his side and applied a towel to the gash.
The Ducks on Thursday announced before the team began a morning practice at Honda Center without Getzlaf that Anaheim’s points leader suffered a “deep facial laceration,” but that X-rays were negative and that he is expected to play Friday.
