Up first for UCLA basketball: vs. Montana State on Friday

UCLA men's basketball opens the season against Montana State on Friday

VS. MONTANA STATE

When: 9 p.m.

Where: Pauley Pavilion.

On the air: TV: Pac-12 Networks; Radio: 570.

Records: Season opener for both teams.

Update: In its only exhibition game, an 80-53 victory over Azusa Pacific, UCLA appeared sloppy and inexperienced. The regular-season opener offers another early tuneup before the schedule gets tough. Freshman Kevon Looney and sophomore Isaac Hamilton will make their collegiate debuts, and sophomore Bryce Alford opens as the starting point guard. The ability of these younger players to adapt quickly could determine how UCLA fares in the nonconference season. The Bobcats are coming off a 14-16 season.
