Boys’ basketball: Marvin Bagley III dominates as No. 1 Sierra Canyon beats Alemany

The first four games were sort of a warmup for 6-foot-11 junior Marvin Bagley III. But on Saturday in the championship game of the Sierra Canyon tournament, he was forced to show all of his immense skills against Alemany. And he left fans in awe.

Bagley contributed 37 points, including 14 dunks, to help the top-ranked Trailblazers (5-0) defeat Alemany, 79-64. It’s going to be common this season when Sierra Canyon is challenged to see this kind of performance.

Cody Riley had 19 points and Adam Seiko 14. DJ McDonald and Fred Odhimbo had 17 points each for Alemany.

La Canada finished its first week with a 4-1 record after beating Oak Park, 82-68. Patric Panoosi had 24 points.

Mission Prep defeated Crespi, 67-56. Devon Rojo led Crespi with 23 points. Mike Meadows had 17 points in Campbell Halls’ 68-49 win over Eagle Rock.

Former Calabasas Coach Jon Palarz faced his old school on Saturday, and Chaminade came away with a 61-53 win. K.J. Martin had 28 points and Dayton Doucette 17. Camarillo defeated Westlake, 66-60. Jaime Jaquez had 26 points and 15 rebounds.

In the championship game of the Beverly Hills tournament, Santa Monica defeated Washington, 52-42. Tony Holley and Rip Economou each scored 12 points. Payton Moore was named tournament MVP.

Brentwood defeated Leuzinger, 57-44, with Charley Wadler scoring 18 points. Loyola knocked off Birmingham, 55-52. Mike Hutton had 11 points. Birmingham played without Devante Doutrive. Devonaire Doutrive had 21 points.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated El Camino Real, 52-41. Avery Martinez had 18 points.

Corona Centennial defeated Westchester, 69-61. Jalen Hill had 20 points. Luis Rodriguez had 21 points for Westchester.

In Arizona, Heritage Christian suffered its first defeat, losing to Arizona Chaparral, 72-60. Juhwan Harris-Dyson finished with 24 points. Chaparral is 9-0; Heritage Christian is 9-1.

Mater Dei defeated Arizona St. Mary’s, 79-43. Spencer Freedman had 19 points. Justice Sueing added 15 points.

Village Christian defeated Viewpoint, 70-49.

Simi Valley defeated Valencia, 54-49. Max Edwards had 24 points.

St. John Bosco stayed unbeaten with a 75-68 win over Edison in the championship game of the Corona del Mar tournament. Alpha Okoli had 20 points and 17 rebounds. Jojo Bush added 20 points. Randall Walker contributed 28 points.

Burbank won the Ventura County Classic with a 77-47 win over Shalhevat. Michael Woods was named tournament MVP. Burbank is 7-1.

Crossroads defeated Liberty, 63-40. Shareef O’Neal scored 20 points and DJ Houston 17.

San Marino defeated Providence, 61-47. Jaydn Torres had 27 points and 12 rebounds. Vista Murrieta ended Rancho Mirage’s 37-game regular season win streak with a 66-59 win. Vista Murrieta is 6-0 Charles Neal had 22 points for Rancho Mirage
