Girls’ basketball: Former Fremont coach Mat Taylor dies
Mat Taylor, who was the girls’ basketball coach at Los Angeles Fremont from 1987 through 1995 and was a highly regarded English teacher, died on Dec. 28 of lung cancer, family friend Phil Chase said. He was 60.
Taylor later coached at West Los Angeles College and taught at Elizabeth Learning Center.
“He was one dependable force in many students’ lives,” Chase said.
