College Roundup : Cal State Fullerton Loses to South Alabama, 6-3

Cal State Fullerton’s baseball team lost for the third time in the past four games Monday as the Titans were defeated by South Alabama, 6-3, in a nonconference game in Mobile, Ala.

South Alabama (19-8) scored two unearned runs in the first inning on a pair of errors by Titan third baseman Ralph Ramirez.

Fullerton lost two of three to Florida State before going to South Alabama.

Fullerton scored single runs in the third, fifth and ninth innings.

In the third inning, Fullerton’s Rex Peters walked and eventually scored on a passed ball and two wild pitches. Rod Klopfer singled and scored on a double by Rich Gonzales in the fifth, and Gonzales doubled and scored on a single by Trevor Neighbors in the ninth for Fullerton (18-10).

Steve Watson (0-2) pitched the first 2 1/3 innings and took the loss. Mike Zimmerman pitched a complete game for South Alabama.

Fullerton’s trip concludes today with another game against South Alabama. The Titans open Big West Conference play at home Friday against the University of the Pacific.

In Big West Conference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 5-1, Las Vegas 0-0--Anjie Bryant (12-1) pitched a three-hitter in the opener for Fullerton (25-5, 9-1) at home. It was Bryant’s ninth consecutive victory and third consecutive shutout. Tiny Glomboske had an RBI single as Fullerton scored two runs in the second inning. Mich DeBree had an RBI single as Fullerton scored two more runs in the fourth. The Titans added another run in the sixth.

In the second game, Ann Van Dortrecht pitched a one-hitter and Carey Hess had an RBI single in the second for Fullerton. Las Vegas is 14-16, 4-8.
