Iverson Earns Ejection

From Times Wire Reports

Allen Iverson had 10 points before being ejected for yelling at an official from the bench in Philadelphia’s 108-103 exhibition victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday in London, Canada.

Iverson yelled at Courtney Kirkland to blow his whistle after the official failed to call a foul on Toronto in the second quarter. Kirkland gave Iverson a technical and then ejected him after the guard repeated his demand.

Iverson, who was jawing with Kirkland earlier in the game, was sitting along the baseline.

“I guess he had a short fuse,” Iverson said. “I deserved the second one, but I don’t think I deserved the first one.”

Philadelphia Coach Jim O’Brien said he didn’t think an ejection was warranted.

“It’s early for the officials too, and I just think they should have a bit more respect than they gave him,” O’Brien said. “But you know, his lack of minutes was probably a blessing in disguise.”

Grant Hill had 20 points and six rebounds, and the Orlando Magic ended a three-game losing streak in the exhibition season with a 114-93 victory over the visiting Dallas Mavericks.

Hill, who sat out all of last season because of an injured ankle and made only three of 13 shots from the field in his first two appearances of the exhibition season, made six of nine shots against the Mavericks and made all eight free-throw attempts. Hill’s point total was double his combined output from his first two games.

Dallas star forward Dirk Nowitzki left in the third quarter after colliding with Magic rookie guard Jameer Nelson. Nowitzki stayed down for over a minute, then limped to the locker room because of a mild left ankle sprain.

New Orleans Hornet owner George Shinn and city officials are at odds over his quest to get $6.5 million in public money for a downtown practice facility.

The problem: Shinn promised City Council members two years ago that he would build the facility in economically-depressed eastern New Orleans.

Shinn’s deal with the city, however, allows him to build the facility in New Orleans -- it does not specify a location.

Shinn moved the Hornets from Charlotte, N.C., to New Orleans three seasons ago after disputes with officials there.
