Force of nature

I’m not that much of a fan of drag racing, but I’ve always been a fan of John Force and your Feb. 9 article on his new safety initiative helped me realize why: He always speaks from the heart. Whether it was showing his exhilaration after winning races and titles or admitting that his concern for his daughter Ashley added to the guilt he felt for the loss of Eric Medlen, John has gone beyond the sort of programmed responses that most race car drivers give -- thanking their sponsors, seemingly, even if the sponsor’s product caused their car to break on the starting line -- and has instead shared his real feelings with his fans.

In an age when appearance is all-important, John Force provides something more valuable -- substance.
