‘Lincoln,’ ‘Skyfall’ among Cinema Audio Society award nominees

“Lincoln,” “Skyfall,” “Frankenweenie” and “Modern Family” are among the nominees for the 49th annual Cinema Audio Society Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing for 2012. The Cinema Audio Society announced the nominations Tuesday morning in six categories in features and television.

Vying for outstanding achievement in sound mixture for live-action motion pictures are “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Les Miserables,” “Lincoln,” “Skyfall” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Nominees for animated motion pictures are “Brave,” “Frankenweenie,” “The Lorax,” “Rise of the Guardians” and “Wreck-It Ralph.”

OSCAR WATCH 2013: Keeping track of the awards race

Competing in the TV movies and miniseries category are “American Horror Story: Asylum Part I — Welcome to Briarcliff,” “Game Change,” “Hatfields & McCoys: Part I,” “Hemingway & Gellhorn” and “Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia.”

Vying for one-hour TV series are “Boardwalk Empire: The Milkmaid’s Lot,” “Breaking Bad: Dead Freight,” “Game of Thrones: Blackwater,” “Homeland: Beirut Is Back” and “Mad Men: Commissions and Fees.”

The half-hour TV nominees are “30 Rock: Mazel Tov, Dummies!,” “Californication: Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be,” “Modern Family: Disneyland,” “Nurse Jackie: Handle Your Scandal” and “The Office: The New Guys.”

The nominees for nonfiction, variety or music series or specials are “The 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” “Deadliest Catch: I Don’t Wanna Die,” “Frozen Planet: To the Ends of the Earth,” “Great Performances: “At the Met: Anna Bolena” and “Soundtracks: Music Without Borders.”

Production sound mixer Chris Newman is this year’s recipient of the CAS Career Achievement Award, and director Jonathan Demme is set to receive the CAS Filmmaker Award.

The CAS Awards will be handed out on Feb. 16 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin is the emcee.
