“Everything they make tells a story,” Kristen Stewart said of Chanel as she arrived at a private party in West Hollywood celebrating the Chanel Beauty House, the brand’s interactive beauty pop-up. “The team at Chanel that puts the makeup together, they sit and theorize and think of the stories that they want to tell through makeup.”

Before stepping foot inside the temporary space, Stewart, who has a longstanding relationship with the French fashion house, sang the praises of Chanel’s global creative makeup and color designer.

“Lucia Pica is the most talented person I’ve ever met,” she said. “She designs most of the makeup at Chanel. She’s this intrinsic, natural artist. She’s truly instinctive in the way that she approaches things.”

The Chanel Beauty House was created to celebrate @welovecoco, the beauty brand’s new Instagram community devoted to user-generated content. Celebrities, stylists and influencers also gathered at the Wednesday night party. Following its splashy launch, the interactive beauty venue, located at 9169 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, is open to the public through March 4. Visitors will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis and can make reservations online here.

Pica wasn’t at the party, but Chanel pulled out all the stops for its latest L.A. pop-up experience. The space was equipped with a bathtub filled with pearls; a boudoir bursting with Chanel goodies; a bathroom overflowing with Chanel lipsticks and glosses; a virtual mirror that allowed guests to digitally try on their favorite shades, “Clueless”-style; and suffice to say, one Instagram-worthy moment after another.

“Does Chanel need a roommate?” Este Haim of the sister group Haim quipped, while checking out the new digs. “Can we move in? Is that an option?”

“I’d heard amazing things about it,” added her sister Alana. “I’m really excited to see it in real life.” (Their other sister, Danielle Haim, was also in attendance.)

Following a media preview on Tuesday, guests such as Cindy Crawford got their chance to check the space out. Joining the supermodel at the party were Sharon Stone, Chloe Kim, Kiernan Shipka, Dylan Brosnan, Ava Phillippe, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Jhene Aiko, Cyn, Mackenzie Foy, Odeya Rush, Sasha Lane, Tessa Thompson and others.

For her part, Shipka couldn’t wait for the party’s big reveal and received a sneak peek the day before the party. “I saw you in the bathtub yesterday — with pearls,” she told a guest. “That sounds weird, but I saw you lounging in the pearls yesterday.

“I got a little preview,” Shipka later said. “The space is amazing. There are so many different rooms. It’s like a candy store.”

Shipka praised Kim on her recent success at the Olympics. “Congratulations! That’s so cool,” Shipka told the gold medalist.

“Thanks so much,” Kim responded.

Although the snowboarder was surprisingly mum about her recent medal win, Kim was happy to talk about the beauty event. “I’m excited to experience it and see what it’s like,” she said. “I love getting dressed up. I’m born and raised in L.A. So I think that will really do it for you.”

The performance

Guests gathered on an outdoor patio to watch Tove Lo perform a four-song set that included her hits “Talking Body” and “Habits (Stay High)” as well as a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You.”

Earlier in the night, Lo called Ocean “one of my favorite artists” and admitted she’d been working hard at mastering the cover of his song. “It’s more of a challenge to perform someone else’s songs because you want to do them justice,” she said.

The Haim sisters sang along and snapped photos on their phones during the performance. Before leaving the stage, Lo told the crowd, “I’ll see you in the pearl tub. We should all get in there together.”

The looks

Stewart wore a navy and ecru wool and cashmere cardigan and skirt from the brand’s Métiers D’art Paris-Hamburg 2017/’18 collection. She paired the look with Chanel shoes and Chanel fine jewelry “Coco Crush” rings in 18-karat white gold and diamonds.

“I’ve worked with Chanel since I was little,” said Stewart of her longtime relationship with the brand. She said Chanel’s team has never tried to “fit” her “into the mold of what they would like to sell.”

She said the fashion house has always given her the freedom to find “things that feel true,” adding, “I’m lucky to have found the right people because I was so young. It wasn’t even necessarily a choice. It was this natural drawing to each other.”

The Haim sisters coordinated their looks with pieces from the Chanel’s cruise 2018 collection as well as its spring/summer 2018 Act 1 and Act 2 ready-to-wear collections. “There was a very large rack of beautiful Chanel clothes, but these looks really called to us,” Alana Haim said.

Her sister, Este Haim, added, “We wanted to go for the classic tweed Chanel vibe. I’ve always admired it.” Then Danielle Haim said, “We’ve been really into matching lately. We tried to coordinate as much as possible.”

Kim wore a navy cotton dress from Chanel’s spring/summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection.

“I really like this dress,” she said. “When we saw it on the rack, we were like, ‘I don’t know if that will look good on me.’ But I put it on, and it was really cute. I like it a lot and I’m really digging this lip color. I didn’t really start wearing a red lip until recently. Now I’m obsessed. These shoes are so cute too. It matches the belt. ... I had a lot of fun putting all of this together.”

Shipka decided to rock a white and blue tweed dress from Chanel’s spring/summer 2018 Act 2 ready-to-wear collection. “I loved that it was fuzzy and a good cut,” she said. “It’s timeless and chic, but the brand is so current and edgy at the same time. It really manages to capture everything that it was and everything that it ever will be simultaneously.”

For the party, Lane selected a multicolored fantasy tweed dress from Chanel’s spring/summer 2018 Act 1 ready-to-wear collection. “It’s the perfect chill outfit,” Lane said. “I have a hoodie on my dress and I’m in tennis shoes with a sick backpack. It’s super easy but super beautiful.”
