A Long Beach motorcycle officer was struck by a semi-truck Tuesday morning and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries, police said.

Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell said the officer suffered fairly serious injuries in the collision on Santa Fe Avenue about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Those injuries are not believed to be life threatening, he added.

McDonnell and other senior officials were headed to the hospital to check on the officer, who was in stable condition.

Crash scene investigators asked the public to avoid Santa Fe Avenue between Anaheim and 17th streets.

Helicopter news footage showed the officer’s motorcycle on its side on the street surrounded by evidence markers; the semi-truck was stopped nearby.
