Mother charged in drug death of her infant daughter
A woman has been charged in the 2013 death of her 10-month-old daughter, Los Angeles County prosecutors said Thursday.
Charissa Ranee Bailey, 28, remained jailed on a murder charge in lieu of $1 million bail.
The incident occurred April 24, 2013, when homicide detectives were called to a Long Beach motel after Brihanna Adkins was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities said Brihanna had stopped breathing at the motel in the 600 block of West Pacific Coast Highway before she was taken to the hospital.
Investigators worked on the case for nearly a year after coroner officials determined the infant had died of methadone ingestion.
Bailey was arrested and charged Friday and is scheduled to be arraigned April 9.
