Snoop Dogg looking to buy into Celtic

Share

Snoop Dogg used to be such a simple guy to figure out. One listen to any of his songs told you pretty much all you needed to know about the hip-hip star -- and pretty much all of which would be unprintable in this space.

These days, though, the rapper born as Calvin Broadus is a much more complex figure. He records reggae under the name Snoop Lion and he’s passionate about gardening, healthy eating and the grunge band Soundgarden.

And he wants to own a soccer team.

Well, not completely own a soccer team, but “enough of a percentage to get me on the board so I can be heard,” he told the Daily Record.

And not just any soccer team, but Celtic, which caught Snoop’s interest with its recent Champions League group-stage upset over Barcelona.

“I didn’t catch the whole Barcelona game but I watched the highlights. I know Barcelona are
a big deal, and it shows Celtic are a big deal as well,” he said. “I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell.”

Snoop has gone as far as to talk to his buddy David Beckham about the idea.

“I asked my man David about Celtic and he was like, ‘Yeah, teams don’t come much bigger,’” the rapper said of the soccer legend who currently plays for the Galaxy. “I would try and sign him up for a season but he is pretty happy over here. L.A. is home for him and his family now -- but I would have to at least make that offer to my boy.”

So, as you can see, this is all still in the planning stages. But, oh, what a plan it might be. “I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things,” he said.

“The boxes at Celtic would never be the same once I have hosted a party there.”

Now that’s starting to sound like the Snoop Dogg we know and love.
