Justin Paulsen of Santa Ana Calvary Chapel pinned Phil Bascos of San Luis Obispo in 28 seconds in the finals of the 103-pound weight class to earn tournament MVP honors of the lower-weight division at the Ayala Tournament Saturday. Bryan Osuna at 119 pounds, Patrick Aleksanyn at 135 pounds and David Jauregui at 140 pounds also swept their divisions for Calvary Chapel.

Ayala’s Armand Kuclukkoseoglu and Nick Ketelsleger each finished with one-point victories in the finals of the 189-pound and heavyweight divisions, respectively. Ketelsleger’s victory gave him the tournament championship in the heavyweight division for the second consecutive year.

Mike O’Hara of Redlands East Valley and Ketelsleger were named co-MVPs in the upper-weight division with four falls and one major decision each. O’Hara’s performance earned him a first-time invitation to the upcoming Five Counties Tournament at Fountain Valley High School.

In the 160-pound final, Brian Merritt of Yucca Valley led, 14-12, with 10 seconds remaining in the third period when Bobby Green of Fontana Miller earned a four-point swing on a takedown and near fall on the edge of the mat just as time expired to claim the victory.

Louis Holguin (119 pounds) swept his weight class with three pins and two major decisions, including an 8-0 win in the finals for Rosemead. El Modena and Alhambra were the only other two Southern Section schools to finish in the top 50 of the 86-team tournament.
