Baseball: El Camino Real faces Chatsworth on Wednesday in rivalry game

Share

In City Section baseball, it doesn’t get any better than the matchup of seven-time City champion El Camino Real taking on nine-time champion Chatsworth. The two schools play the first game of a two-game West Valley League series on Wednesday at El Camino Real, followed by a second game on Friday at Chatsworth.

To understand the significance each time these two schools meet, it wasn’t too long ago after a loss that Chatsworth Coach Tom Meusborn decided he needed to cool off and walked back to Chatsworth rather than take the school bus.

Meusborn took last season off from high school coaching, spending the season at Cal State Northridge, but he’s back this season and has guided the Chancellors to a 14-7 record and 2-0 start in the West Valley League.

El Camino Real Coach Josh Leinhard is happy to welcome Meusborn back, because he enjoys the rivalry and in seeing how players respond. The Conquistdores are 14-6 and 2-0.

The pitching matchups will be like a playoff game. El Camino Real is expected to send out junior Jeremy Polon on Wednesday and Jordan Berg on Friday. Chatsworth will counter with sophomore Tommy Palomera and junior Josh Garcia.

The West Valley League is so strong this season that it’s unlikely any team is going to make it without a league defeat, but if either school sweeps this series, the No. 1 seed in the Division I playoffs will be a likely result.

El Camino Real’s journalism department will stream the game live at this link for audio call.
