Boys’ basketball: Mission League goes 4-0 in Division 4AA openers

Five of the remaining 16 teams in the Southern Section Division 4AA playoffs are from the Mission League. Four teams won their openers on Wednesday night.

St. Francis, which was 0-12 in league, defeated Barstow, 48-35. The Golden Knights will face JSerra, which was 0-10 in the Trinity League, on Friday at JSerra.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Nipomo, 73-49. Gabe Rishwain had 17 points. Michael Oguine had 29 points and 14 rebounds in Chaminade’s 89-57 win over Compton Centennial. Harvard-Westlake defeated Fillmore, 79-31, behind Alex Copeland, who had 29 points and 11 steals. Crespi got a bye.

In 5AA, Windward defeated Vasquez, 84-24. Miye Oni had 23 points in Viewpoint’s 68-36 win over Desert. Brentwood defeated Santa Clara, 54-26. Ountae Campbell and Nick Medavoy each had 13 points. Brentwood will face Pacific Hills whose coach, Bob Webb, used to be an assistant at Brentwood under Ryan Bailey. Both are former UCLA players.

In 4A, Campbell Hall defeated St. Paul, 73-39. Gabe Salazar had 31 points. Buckley defeated Nordhoff, 73-29. Brendon Ferguson scored 20 points.

In 5A, Bell-Jeff defeated Lancaster Baptist, 85-41. Isaac Etter had 17 points.

Rancho Mirage defeated Banning, 81-56, for its first playoff win while starting three freshmen. Sophomore Charles Neal had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Trevor Treinen had 22 points in Servite’s 78-47 win over Jurupa Valley.
