Football: Bill Redell to throw out first pitch at Dodger Stadium
In 1957, ’58 and ‘59, Oaks Christian football Coach Bill Redell was an All-CIF baseball player at San Marino High.
More than 50 years later, Redell will get his chance to show off his baseball arm. He said he’s scheduled to throw out the first pitch before the Dodgers-Giants game on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.
“I’m five feet short of 60 feet, 6 inches,” said Redell, who has been practicing trying to get his arm in shape.
He also was a pretty good quarterback at San Marino, but he has turned out to be an even better coach. He’s won eight Southern Section championships and his teams once had a 48-game win streak.
He’s 73 and couldn’t be more excited.
Now, if only he had a good coach to get him to throw a baseball 60 feet, 6 inches. I’m sure Oaks Christian baseball Coach Tim Penprase can offer help.
