Football: Bishop Amat has home-field advantage against Oaks Christian

Unbeaten Oaks Christian better be ready for the challenge of trying to beat Bishop Amat on the Lancers’ home field on Friday night in a Pac-5 Division quarterfinal game.

It won’t be easy.

Bishop Amat hasn’t lost a home game since Oct. 25, 2013, when Alemany won, 29-26. It’s on a 13-game home winning streak.

“It’s hard to do when they’re good,” Alemany Coach Dean Herrington said. “I love playing there. It’s a fun high school atmosphere. You got the student section in the end zone. It’s loud and there’s not a lot of room for the visitor’s section.”

Bishop Amat has a grass field, which isn’t good for teams used to playing on all-weather surfaces.

Of course, the fans won’t be making tackles and a little noise doesn’t result in points being put on the scoreboard.

But the Lancers like playing at home, and it’s just another opportunity for Oaks Christian to prove it deserved a No. 3 seeding in the Pac-5 playoffs.
