Football: Gardena Serra has QB competition going into passing tourney

Share

Gardena Serra is among several schools that still have competitions taking place for starting quarterback going into Saturday’s seven on seven passing tournament at Central Park in Saugus.

Competing for the job are junior Khalil Tate, the backup last season to Jalen Greene, and senior Caleb Wilson, a transfer from Georgia who’s the son of Chris Wilson, USC’s new defensive line coach.

Tate is one of Serra’s fastest players and also has a strong arm. Wilson is 6 feet 4 and a pinpoint passer. Both should play on Saturday.

Another school still looking for a starting quarterback is Oaks Christian. The arrival of freshman Matt Corral has delayed a final decision. Corral will get a look on Saturday when the Lions are also expected to play Holden Thomas and Brandon Perdue.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame is using the summer to figure out its starting quarterback. Among the candidates is Adam Carr, a transfer from Westlake.

Corona Santiago won’t have a quarterback problem on Saturday. Its quarterback is Blake Barnett, who recently committed to Alabama and figures to bring out fans of the Crimson Tide to the Santa Clarita Valley.

Alemany and Hart are the favorites in the Saugus tournament.
