Football: QB Ricky Town is excited about USC playing Alabama

St. Bonaventure senior getting ready for season

USC-bound senior quarterback Ricky Town of St. Bonaventure was directing his team in a passing competition on Wednesday night at Burbank Burroughs, and he expressed excitement that the Trojans would be opening the 2016 season against Alabama at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex.

“It’s going to be a sweet environment,” Town said.

Town originally committed to Alabama before changing to USC. Former USC Coach Lane Kiffin is an Alabama assistant. And Corona Santiago quarterback Blake Barnett is headed to Alabama, so there could be all kinds of stories to tell in 2016.

Town is getting in shape this summer and should have lots of weapons this fall. St. Bonaventure has a terrific receiving group in Lavan Alston, junior Darius Vines, sophomore Ladell Atkins and senior tight end Johnny McGill. Vines and Atkins also play quarterback, so don’t be surprised if the Seraphs add some trick plays to their offense under new coach Adam Guerra. Also, four starting offensive linemen return.

St. Bonaventure’s defense is an area of concern. The Seraphs open their season against Helix, coached by former Taft Coach Troy Starr.
