Baseball notes: Giants acquire Marlon Byrd from Reds

The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and cash Thursday from the Cincinnati Reds to boost their injury-plagued outfield for the stretch run.

Center fielder Angel Pagan is on the 15-day disabled list with an injured right knee. Left fielder Nori Aoki came off the seven-day concussion list Thursday ahead of the series opener at Pittsburgh, but right fielder Hunter Pence went on the DL with a strained left oblique.

The 37-year-old Byrd hit .237 with 19 home runs and 42 RBIs in 96 games with the Reds. The Giants become his seventh team since 2012.

The Detroit Tigers acquired left-hander Randy Wolf from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations and announced he would start Saturday against the Texas Rangers. Wolf, who will turn 39 on Saturday, was 9-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 23 starts for triple-A Buffalo. The Tigers also put pitchers Anibal Sanchez and Daniel Norris on the disabled list... The Rangers put outfielder Josh Hamilton on the disabled list for the second time this season. The cause is inflammation in the left knee, which had forced him to miss the previous four games. ... Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jake McGee will have surgery on his left knee Friday and could miss the rest of the season. McGee is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 36 games this season. ... The Arizona Diamondbacks activated catcher Gerald Laird from the 60-day disabled list and designated him for assignment.
