Guns and ammo confiscated from Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s home

Las Vegas police investigating a shooting outside a skating rink seized two handguns, ammunition and two bulletproof vests from the home of boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and two cars.

One of the alleged victims in the shooting incident told investigators that the six-time champion threatened him 10 minutes before another man shot at his car from the rink’s parking lot as they drove away Sunday night, according to search warrant documents obtained by the Associated Press on Thursday.

No one was hurt in the shooting. Mayweather has not been named as a suspect, and a man police are seeking has not been arrested, police Sgt. John Loretto said.

Former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie was arraigned on a drunk driving charge in Lawrenceburg, Ky., after refusing sobriety tests during an early-morning traffic stop in which officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath. Attorney William L. Patrick entered a not-guilty plea on Gillispie’s behalf. . . . Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane and his cousin pleaded guilty to a noncriminal charge of disorderly conduct and were ordered to send an apology to the cab driver they were accused of roughing up over 20 cents in Buffalo, N.Y. . . . Daniel Villa, a former NFL lineman with the New England Patriots, has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old who attended the high school where he was a football coach. . . . Amanda Rodrigues, the wife of boxer Arturo Gatti, intends to sue the Brazilian state of Pernambuco for arresting her as a prime suspect in her husband’s death a month ago, her attorney said.

Patrick not ready to address future

Danica Patrick wouldn’t address her future with Andretti Green Racing or the IndyCar series, sidestepping questions about her expiring contract.

Fifth on the IRL points list going into Saturday’s race at Chicagoland Speedway, Patrick is in the final year of a three-year deal with Andretti Green and has said she’ll wait until the end of the season to solidify her next move, which could include a possible jump to NASCAR.

No all-Williams final at U.S. Open

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal could meet in the U.S. Open final. Serena and Venus Williams can’t.

The No. 1-seeded Federer and No. 3 Nadal were drawn into opposite halves of the field for the tournament.

The Williams sisters won’t have a rematch of the Wimbledon final, in which Serena beat Venus. Second-seeded Serena and No. 3 Venus were drawn for a possible U.S. Open semifinal.

Sam Querrey hit 15 aces to upset top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, and reach the semifinals of the Pilot Pen at New Haven, Conn. On the women’s side, Amelie Mauresmo rallied for a 7-6 (9), 2-6, 6-3 quarterfinal win over top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Chula Vista team reaches U.S. final

Nick Conlin scampered home from third on a wild pitch to give Chula Vista, Calif., an 11-10 win over Warner Robins, Ga., to advance to the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series at South Williamsport, Pa. California, which rallied from a from five-run deficit, will face Texas Saturday with a berth in the World Series title game at stake.

FC Barcelona soccer player Lionel Messi was chosen the best player of the 2008-09 Champions League. . . . Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace has refused to confirm whether the team has made a formal offer to Allen Iverson, though the guard said as much on Twitter and ESPN.com reported an offer had been made.
