Dan Winkler broke his right elbow throwing a pitch in the Atlanta Braves’ 12-7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

Winkler fell to the ground before he could reach the Braves dugout and said he was thinking “Not now, not again.” He was assisted to the bench.

After sitting out most of last season while recovering from elbow ligament-replacement surgery, Winkler threw a pitch behind Randal Grichuk in the seventh inning Sunday and immediately left the mound, holding his right arm to his chest.

Winkler said he “kind of felt something in my elbow” when throwing a slider but “didn’t really think much of it” before he was injured on the next pitch.

“I heard a crack,” he said. “I knew exactly what it was right when it happened. It didn’t feel good.”

Postponements continue for Indians

The postponements keep piling up for the Cleveland Indians.

The Indians’ game against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday was postponed because of rain. Rain fell during the morning and was forecast for the rest of the day. Temperatures were in the 40s.

The Indians have been postponed three times in the first week of the season because of inclement weather.

The game will be made up May 23 as part of a traditional doubleheader.

Boston Red Sox fans will get an extra treat when they show up to the home opener Monday at Fenway Park.

Because of a couple of rainouts during the season-opening series in Cleveland, the Red Sox will send David Price to the mound.

“I know opening day in Fenway is like a holiday,” Price said. “So for me to be able to get that game, I’m definitely very excited to have it.”

The Red Sox signed the free-agent left-hander to a seven-year, $217-million contract. He pitched on opening day in Cleveland.
